If there’s one thing that screams summertime to me, it’s watermelon! Is there anything better than a sweet and juicy ripe watermelon? And with all of the rising temperatures we’ve been experiencing, it’s the perfect refreshing summertime snack.
There’s nothing like having watermelon on a hot day. And while a regular slice of watermelon is perfectly fine, it’s also fun to spice it up sometimes. These watermelon fries are a little spicy, a little sweet and a hint of tart all in one bite. With a sprinkle of Tajin and coconut sugar on top of the watermelon and dipped into a coconut lime yogurt dip, you’ve just up’d your snacking game to a whole new level!
I love shopping for fresh produce when it’s in season. If you’re making these watermelon fries in the summertime, this is when watermelon season is at its peak, making it the fruit to have to beat the summer heat.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe

- Healthy and nutritious. All of the ingredients are good for you ingredients and come together and ready to serve in less than 15 minutes.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Watermelon - the best watermelons are heavy and usually have a yellow splotch on one side. To cut the watermelon into sticks, remove the rind, and then cut the watermelon into fry sized sticks.
- Tajin seasoning - Tajin is a Mexican seasoning made of salt, chili, and lime. A similar seasoning maybe called “chile lime seasoning”
- Coconut sugar - This gives the coconut lime dip some extra sweetness to the watermelon sticks but it’s optional if you find your watermelon is sweet enough.
- Coconut yogurt - lime flavored or plain. I used a non-dairy coconut yogurt to make this recipe vegan. But you can absolutely try out a dairy coconut flavored yogurt as well.
- Honey - to add a hint of sweetness to the dip. You can substitute with agave or date syrup or omit it all together if you like.
- Lime - you’ll need the zest of 1 lime to add to the coconut yogurt for extra lime flavor. If you used plain yogurt, I suggest adding the juice from ½ of a lime (about 1 teaspoon).
How to Make the Watermelon Fries
- Combine the coconut lime yogurt, lime zest and honey in a bowl, mix well.
- Add the watermelon sticks to a large plate.
- Sprinkle some of the Tajin seasoning and coconut sugar on top of the watermelon.
- Serve the watermelon fries and dip together.
How to Store the Watermelon Sticks
The cut up watermelon sticks can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. I recommend storing the tajin seasoning and the yogurt dip separately and adding the seasoning right before serving.
Is It a Thyroid-Friendly Recipe? Not only does watermelon juice taste delicious but it's also naturally sweet, which means no additional sweetener is needed for this drink. It can help improve digestion since it contains plenty of water and a small amount of fiber, both of which are necessary for healthy digestion. It can help you stay hydrated because it is 92% water. It also helps improve skin health with an abundance of Vitamin C. Vitamin A is also important for healthy skin since it helps create and repair skin cells.
