    My name is Briana!

    I'm the blogger, recipe developer and food photographer behind HalfPastHungry, a blog sharing beginner friendly plant-based recipes that are easy-to-make, healthy and nutritious. You will also find thyroid friendly recipes and nutrition guides to help promote good thyroid health.

    Through HalfPastHungry I hope that I can help inspire you by providing healthy food options. By you choosing to make healthier choices, doesn’t mean that food has to be boring. It can still taste great without the guilt.

    My Story

    My food journey began in 2013 during a routine checkup where my doctor found a lump in my neck. I went through many tests, biopsies and eventually surgery to remove my thyroid, which was unfortunately found cancerous.

    It’s been a long road without my thyroid, battling hypothyroidism and weight gain. Many doctors and specialist will say, “Thyroid cancer is the good cancer”, but each cancer has its own set of symptoms, setbacks and hardships. Through it all, I am so blessed and grateful to be healthy and where I am today.

    Due to hypothyroidism, I experienced severe weight gain once my thyroid was removed. I switched to a plant-based diet while also eating seafood on occasions. I try to live a healthy lifestyle through meal prepping, exercising, and choosing to eat a balanced, yet flexible diet, containing a variety of wholesome foods.

    I’d never imagined that going through such a challenging time such as having thyroid cancer would result a few years later in the creation of HalfPastHungry. Now, I’m able to encourage and inspire others that may be struggling with a similar situation, such as hypothyroidism or weight gain, to jump off the “diet” bandwagon and realize that you can still enjoy the foods you love with a little moderation and nourish your body by eating wholesome and healthy foods.

    The recipes you’ll find on HalfPastHungry are easy-to-make and have simple ingredients. The majority of the recipes are plant-based and mostly dairy-free, though some may contain seafood or dairy. Those recipes can easily be modified and most of the ingredients can be substituted.

    Many times people refer to certain types of foods or food groups in a negative light, “Carbs are bad” or “Sugar makes you fat” but I believe everything in moderation! It’s all about finding a healthy balance.
